Still Young at 89

gleespring2010_30Tuesday, September 9th marks the start of the 90th Season for the Eugene Gleemen, the West (Best) Coast’s longest continuously performing chorus.  While many other choral groups take the summer off, the Gleemen had a very busy schedule with appearances at the Lane County Fair, the Eugene Emeralds, the Eugene Celebration, Hop Valley Brewing, and I’m told some impromptu “flash mob” appearances at other local drinking establishments!

John, Paul, Ringo ... say what???We love being able to perform in the Eugene/Springfield area and the outstanding support received from out local community.  This year the Gleemen will be continuing their “Gleemen Grant” program which awards funds to local, young choral groups to support their activities, a critical source of funding for them in a time when school budgets continue to be cut.

I've Been Working on the Railroad...One thing we can’t get enough of is new members!  We welcome male singers from any musical background who want to experience, “the Sheer Joy of Singing!”.  There is no audition needed, you don’t need to be able to read music, just want to have fun in a choral setting with a diverse group of singers from 18 to 88, and all walks of life.

Rehearsals are every Tuesday night at 7:00 PM, starting September 9th in the Grace Chapel at First Christian Church, 1166 Oak St, Eugene.  Come sing with us – we’d love to see you there!

For more information, click the “Join” link at the top of the page, watch our  YouTube video, and read the New Member Orientation Guide.

Celebrate with the Gleemen at the Eugene Celebration Parade!

Gleemen at the 2013 Eugene Celebration ParadeNothing quite says Eugene like the Celebration Parade – this year the Gleemen will again be a participant in the parade, with some of our favorite songs from the past year: Viva L’amourThis Land is Your LandBrothers Sing OnMighty Men of SongThe Whiffenpoof Song, and our perennial favorite, The Oregon Trail.

Last year was incredibly fun and generated a lot of interest in the Gleemen from our local community.  Make sure you wave and say “Hi” if you are watching the parade – we love your pictures too – feel free to upload them to Facebook and tag us!

O Say Can You See … The Gleemen Perform Friday Night?

National Anthem

Friday night is the last opportunity to see the Eugene Gleemen perform the National Anthem this year – so head on out to PK Park to cheer both the Gleemen and your favorite Eugene Emeralds.

Next to Christmas caroling, the honor of performing the National Anthem in front the large, appreciative audience at PK Park is something we cherish and truly embodies for us, “The Sheer JOY of Singing!”

Fun at the Lane County Fair

Lane County Fair - 2012If it’s late July in Eugene it means it’s time for the Lane County Fair, and your next chance to see the Eugene Gleemen perform.  This year we will be performing a subset of our favorite songs from our Spring Concert – we really believe in putting the “Glee” back into Gleemen!

If you missed our Spring Concert this is your opportunity for a free encore performance of such Glee classics as “Mighty Men of Song”, “Vive L’Amour”, “We’re the Men”, “Brothers Sing On” and one of our all-time favorites, “The Whiffenpoof Song” – made famous by the Yale Whiffenpoofs and first performed by the Eugene Gleemen 40 years ago in 1974.Jammin' at the Fair - 2012

We hope to see you at the Fair – We are performing at 11:00 AM on Thursday the 24th in the Wheeler Pavillion, and of course, there should be plenty of free ice cream!

Play Ball!

The Eugene Gleemen return to PK Park this Friday (July 11th) to sing the National Anthem at Eugene Emeralds home game against the Boise Hawks.  Our arrangement of The Star Spangled Banner was created by none other than our current Musical Director, Dr. John Jantzi.  We hope to see you there – Go Ems!

Gleemen Summer Fun!

Gleemen Summer Fun

While most choirs are winding down for the summer, the Eugene Gleemen are donning those familiar lemon polo shorts and getting ready for the fun part of the year!  We have a number of summer activities planned this year, including:

  • Performances of the National Anthem at PK Park for the Eugene Emeralds on July 11, July 25, and August 1.  As usual, games start at 7:05 PM so be early to catch our very own rendition of the anthem.
  • An encore performance of our Spring Concert (“Let the Men Sing”) at the Lane County Fair on July 24 at 11:00 AM in the Wheeler Pavilion
  • A rendition of our ever expanding repertoire of Glee songs at Hop Valley in Eugene on July 29 – time TBD
  • A float in the Eugene Celebration Parade on August 23.  Last year was the first time we participated for many years and it was a blast!

We hope you all have a long and enjoyable summer this year and have the opportunity to catch one of our performances.
