What do you do when the choral director says, “I need eight guys immediately to fill some roles in the upcoming Eugene Opera production of Faust!”
Respond, “No problem boss, and pass the eye-shadow”.
To say there is a difference between standing on risers wearing a tux and singing from sheet music … and having to memorize your lines in another language (French – mon Dieu!), act, learn staging, costumes and makeup is a massive understatement!
Still, we seemed to have survived and while some of the Gleemen who participated swore never to grace the Hult Center stage again, others were bitten by the Opera bug and have been regular members of the Eugene Opera chorus.
All together now…
de nos aïeux,
mourons comme eux!
et sous ton aile,
dirige nos pas, enflamme nos cœurs!
